Energy and ventilation systems

Ausschnitt der IFI-Stadt, Energie- und Raumluftsysteme

We have extensive expertise in the design, operation and optimization of various ventilation and air conditioning systems. We support all aspects of room air technology and pay particular attention to reconciling the sometimes contradictory requirements in terms of energy efficiency, comfort, technical feasibility and legal requirements in the best possible way.

Room ventilation technology is as diverse as your building. I.F.I. supports planners, building owners and users in the conception, design and planning of ventilation systems for a wide range of applications.

Thanks to the use of highly efficient heat recovery systems, mechanical ventilation systems are now established as an energy-efficient alternative to traditional window ventilation. At the same time, users do not want to be locked behind windows that cannot be opened. Hybrid systems combine the advantages of both approaches.

With the right design and suitable control strategies, the requirements for user comfort and energy efficiency can nowadays be harmonized very well. Contact us if you are interested in modern solutions.

  • In swimming pools, layered ventilation can reduce evaporation by up to 80%

  • In high-bay warehouses, routing of airflow ensures a constant indoor climate all year round with minimal energy consumption

  • In ice rinks, fog formation should be suppressed and frost formation on the ice prevented

  • In highly equipped hospital and laboratory buildings, thermal loads must be efficiently disposed of, clean rooms must be safely supplied and, above all, space requirements must be kept within limits

We will be happy to advise you and support your project from the initial idea through to regular operation.

Wind is our hobbyhorse - we know our way around it. Natural, wind-based ventilation is an effective alternative, especially for buildings with high internal loads (e.g. atriums, steam generators, machine houses). Planners should take the interaction between wind and climate into account even before construction.

I.F.I. has carried out investigations and calculations on natural ventilation for numerous major projects. We are currently working on optimizing the operation of existing systems in some of the most modern large-scale power plants in Germany.

Pressure loss in HVAC systems leads to increased energy consumption. Unfavorable duct routing or unfavorable components often lead to increased sound emissions; necessary sound insulation measures in turn increase the pressure loss - a vicious circle.

We advise planners and technical draughtsmen on the design of ventilation systems, review designs for our clients and work together with you to find new solutions for the cost- and energy-efficient operation of HVAC systems.

Last but not least: we also carry out energy inspections in accordance with GEG (formerly §12 EnEV) and offering training courses based on VDI 2081.

Air curtains are not only found at the entrance doors of modern department stores and drugstores. They are also used in industrial process technology to separate zones. Using numerical simulation, we at the I.F.I. can predict the flow and temperature conditions as well as the energy losses during operation. Simulations often also form a basis for interpreting measurements on existing systems, e.g. building entrances, industrial doors, cold stores, thermal process systems, cooling sections or reflow ovens.

Is your area of application not mentioned? No problem. Please feel free to contact us.

We are proud to provide you with comprehensive support in all matters relating to ventilation technology, from system technology to room airflow. We offer you the design or design review of planned air handling units, duct systems and air outlets and advise you on sensible room flow concepts for your application.

We have tried and tested calculation programs for numerical flow and system simulation at our disposal. For special issues, the I.F.I. laboratory offers the possibility of carrying out flow tests and component tests on an original scale.
